September Links

Once or twice a month, I gather up links to some of my favourite reading and resources from the past fortnight. I’d love to know what you’ve been reading in the comments too.

Articles

What Sins of Ministry are You Killing Today?
I linked to the first part of this article last month, and the follow-up is equally excellent.

How to Help Teens Study the Bible
Katherine Forster guides us in how to help the teenagers in our lives kindle their love for Scripture. Helpful advice for parents, youth group leaders, and anyone else discipling or raising a teenager.

The Only Status That Can Satisfy
I’ve always been a nerdy overachiever, so I related to Quina here—both her sin and her story of redemption. “It finally became clear to me I couldn’t even impress God with my attempts at being moral and virtuous. How could I conjure up some sort of holiness to impress the Holy One?”.

J.C. Ryle on Preparing for Our Dying Hour
I loved this excerpt from Ryle’s Practical Religion. If we all read this every morning, I suspect we’d live differently.

Podcasts

Catherine Parks on Writing Biographies (Home Row)
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—this is my favourite podcast. I love getting a glimpse into other writers’ methods and routines. It’s a struggle not to put every single episode into these link roundups.

Tim Keller on the 3 Dangers for Anyone in Ministry (TGC)
This is an old podcast episode that I listened to several months ago, but I recently found the notes I’d written from it on a scrap of paper. Even reading over those brief notes was so convicting! Essential listen for anyone in ministry.
